Installing an Operating System
Installing the OS is a lot easier than you may think. Most require you to turn on your computer than immediately insert the CD and follow the on screen instructions. It is also HIGHLY recommended you read the OS instruction manual before installing. |
| |
1. Restart your system and enter BIOS. I'm sure you still have it turned on from the last lesson so press the restart button and enter BIOS again. |
| |
|
2. Configure boot sequence. Usually found in the Advanced Settings, look for something that says "First Boot Device" "Second Boot Device" "Third Boot Device" or similar to those. You should set them in this order:
- First: Floppy Drive
- Second: CD-ROM
- Third: C or IDE or HDD
This tells your system to load certain components first so it can load your cd or floppy before trying to load up your hard drive. |
| |
3. Restart and immediately insert the installation CD. Save your settings from step 2 and restart your computer. As soon as your computer restarts, press the eject button on the CD-ROM, insert the OS installation CD and press the eject button again to close the CD-ROM. |
| |
4. Follow on-screen instructions. Your CD should automatically load up and now all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions to complete the OS installation.
If you are installing the Windows OS, select "Boot from CD-ROM"
If the install screen did not automatically load, press the reset button on your computer. If it still doesn't load, consult your OS instruction manual. |

Once the OS is installed, follow our instructions on Installing Software. |
