Lesson 15: How to Find a Cheap Floppy Disk Drive
Notes we've taken concerning the Floppy Disk Drive:
- # of Floppy connections Remaining: 1
Step 1: What To Look For
This lesson is extremly optional. Floppies are.. well they're pretty much a dead technology. The only real reason to have one is if you have an old floppy with files on it you need to access.
Floppies don't hold enough data to justify buying a drive to back up data. If you want to do this, you can easily buy a USB Flash Drive for around the same price as a Floppy Disk Drive and it can hold A LOT more data.
If for some reason you absolutely need one, you have three options:
- Buy a USB FDD
- Buy an internal FDD
- Buy an internal FDD that has a Multi Card Reader built in.
For convenience, USB is a really nice option. It's cheap and if you don't need it, you can throw it in a desk drawer. If you use multimedia cards in a digital camera or camcorder and want to view them on your computer, you may consider buying an FDD with a Multi Card Reader built in.
All the options are fairly cheap since floppies are rare to see these days.
